So let's define this thyroid belly shape. This term actually refers to the accumulation of fat. Especially around your waistline or your abdomen area. And which is very difficult to get rid of. Doesn't matter what kind of exercise or diet you do. This belly fat just doesn't go away. Unlike the regular belly fat, which is caused by eating excessive calories, thyroid. Belly fat is mainly caused by underlying hormonal imbalances, so it is very important to know what kind of hormonal imbalances is happening and why they are happening, so that you can make a plan to get rid of this thyroid belly. So now let's talk about the causes of this thyroid belly. Why in the first place people with thyroid disorders are getting this thyroid belly. So let's get started with the number one reason of thyroid belly is abnormal levels of thyroid hormone. Most people who have hypothyroidism, low thyroid, or Hashimoto's conditions, they your thyroid hormones are not optimized either they have low levels of T4 or T3, or their body cannot utilize these thyroid hormones in the body, and that leads to dysfunctions of the thyroid hormone. And your body is not able to utilize these thyroid hormone. And as you know, the thyroid hormone is a metabolic hormone. And when this thyroid hormone is not able to reach the actual cells, the actual body parts of your body, then it cannot take it effect. And that's the reason this fat accumulates in your abdomen area. The second reason of this thyroid belly is underlying inflammation. Inflammation is the body starts damaging your thyroid gland. And that's the reason your thyroid is not able to produce enough thyroid hormone. Inflammation also causes insulin resistance. What happens in your body is that your body is producing adequate amount of insulin. But again, your body's cells are not able to utilize this insulin because your body's cells are becoming resistant to this insulin and cannot utilize it. And when your body is not getting adequate insulin, then it causes accumulation of fat in the body, especially around your liver, around your organs, and also around your belly area. When the inflammation levels are high, it also causes destruction of the mitochondria. Now mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell. This is where all the food, all the calories are being burned. And when your mitochondria is not in good shape, again, that causes accumulation of excess of fat around your belly area. One of the major functions of mitochondria is burning fat in your body. And when your mitochondria is not functioning again, that causes this accumulation of belly fat. So you see this underlying inflammation by various ways is causing accumulation of this belly fat in thyroid patients. The third reason of accumulation of belly fat in diet patients is deficiency of several vitamins and minerals, mainly minerals including zinc, selenium, magnesium are a major reason. It has been shown in several recent studies that people who are deficient in zinc and selenium, they are obese as well as they have high body fat percentage, and especially this body fat is around their waistline or in their abdomen area. The next reason of this thyroid belly is poor gut health, i.e. roid hormone and gut health is linked with each other whenever there is leaky gut happening in your gut. When your body is not able to digest and absorb nutrients from the food that you are eating, that's the time. There is high inflammation in the body as well as you are low in different vitamins and minerals, and poor gut health is very common in thyroid patients. The next reason of this thyroid belly is high cortisol levels. Cortisol is a hormone which is secreted by your adrenal glands. Cortisol is a stress hormone. The last reason is lowered metabolism. You know that the thyroid is a metabolic hormone. It runs your metabolic machinery, especially your basic metabolic rate is controlled by the thyroid hormone. When you have low thyroid hormone then you have a low BMR. This low BMR causes slowed metabolism. And that is again an important reason of packing that extra fat around your abdomen area. So you see, it is not about calories in the thyroid patients which is causing you to accumulate this excessive body fat. There are other underlying things which are happening in your body which is not letting you to lose that excess of fat. So now let's talk about things that you can do today that will help you to lose this excessive belly fat easily. So how you can get rid of this belly fat very quickly. Let's talk about that strategy. So the very first strategy is that make sure you are getting complete thyroid testing done. What that means is that majority of people are only getting to such as their blood work. Know you need to get TSH free T3 free T4 as well as you need to get your body checked for inflammation markers which include CRP, ESR, as well as antibodies of Hashimoto's that include thyroid. But oxidase antibodies and thyroid globulin antibodies. The reason being you need to know where your numbers are, because if your numbers are low in T3, T4, or your T, such is abnormal.
